CellAED®, the world’s first personal defibrillator, is thrilled to announce its official partnership with Sydney Harbour Surf Club (SHSC).

Designed to save lives from sudden cardiac arrest, CellAED® is an affordable personal defibrillator that is easy-to-use by minimally trained people in the event of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

With safety as their number one priority, SHSC is proud to be able provide access to lifesaving defibrillators for their members having five CellAED® defibrillators installed across Rose Bay and Mosman clubhouses, chase boats, and downwind bus.

Although fit and healthy people are not commonly thought of as a demographic needing cardiac care, the fact is, sudden cardiac arrest can happen as a result physical exertion.

“The safety and wellbeing of our members, as well as the broader paddling community, is central to our mission and core values. Partnering with CellAED® means we can provide our members with an extra level of safety and help educate the paddling community about the importance of CPR training and access to rescue ready defibs,” said Luke Horder, Director and Head Coach.

The partnership between SHSC and CellAED® aims to raise awareness and educate the paddling community about the importance of CPR and access to automated external defibrillators

Every year, 30, 000 Aussies experience a sudden cardiac arrest, and sadly, less than 5% survive because they do not have access to lifesaving defibrillation within the first few minutes of collapsing.

While it can happen to anyone, people who are at greater risk are:

- Men over 45, with the risk increasing with age

- People with a family history of heart disease

- People with heart disease themselves, including those who suffer from high blood pressure and high cholesterol

A time-sensitive and life-threatening condition, the chances of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest drop by 10% for every minute CPR and defibrillation are delayed.

But, if CPR and defibrillation are applied within the first few critical minutes, the chances of survival can increase by up to 75%.

With CellAED® you can help save someone’s life while waiting for Emergency Services to arrive.

Performing CPR and getting an AED on the patient during the first few critical moments of a sudden cardiac arrest gives an individual the best chance of survival.

“Sudden cardiac arrest has a survival rate of less than 5% in Australia, and less than 1% globally. This is because it kills so quickly, and because most witnesses to a sudden cardiac arrest don’t have access to a lifesaving AED,” said CellAED® Founder and CEO, Donovan Casey.

“We’re proud to be able to support our local communities, providing them with access to lifesaving equipment.”
