By redesigning how CellAED®️ uses energy to deliver a shock, our engineers developed a personal AED that uses less energy (joules) to deliver a shock (current) that is equivalent to that of conventional AEDs.
Biphasic defibrillators work by delivering current in two phases, each with a different direction of current flow between the electrode pads for a specific time interval.
Most conventional biphasic defibrillators store their energy within a single high voltage capacitor, which delivers an uneven (70/30) waveform across these phases. This requires higher total energy (typically 120 – 150 joules) to ensure phase 2 remains powerful enough to complete defibrillation.
In contrast, CellAED®️ uses multiple capacitors, enabling each phase of the waveform to have independent energy storage, delivering a balanced 50/50 dual waveform across both phases. For this reason, CellAED®️ requires fewer joules (approximatley75 joules) to ensure phase 2 remains powerful enough to deliver an effective shock.
Comparing different AEDs based on their energy usage (joules) is not a comparison of the effectiveness of their therapy. This is because the shape and the duration of the waveform can differ between AEDs, and even AEDs of the same energy.
The most critical factor in determining shock effectiveness is the electrical current that flows through the heart. It is current, not energy that determines effective defibrillation. 1

CellAED®️ conducts an electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis on the patient’s heart rhythm and only delivers a shock if required for shockable sudden cardiac arrest heart rhythms such as ventricular fibrillation (VF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT). Do not hesitate to use CellAED®️ on a person who is unconscious and not breathing or not breathing normally.
CellAED® is pre-programmed to deliver a maximum of 20 deﬁbrillation cycles or 20 shocks, which is equivalent to approximately 45 minutes of operation.
For adults and children greater than 10kgs, stick one pad ﬁrmly onto the patient’s skin at the top right-hand side of their chest and stick the second pad, featuring the blue infant button onto the bottom left-hand side of the patient’s chest, as per the pictorial instructions on the device. When placed correctly, the cable of the device should be aligned with the patient’s nipples where it exits the device. The apical pad of the CellAED® is placed more anteriorly than that of a traditional AED.
To apply your CellAED® to an infant weighing less than 10kg, place the electrode pad with the blue button in the centre of the infant’s chest and place the other pad on the centre of the infant’s back. To perform CPR on an infant, it is important to ﬁrst remove the device gel pad from the front of the infant’s chest. Lay it gel pad side up alongside the infant before conducting CPR. The gel pad can be returned to the infant’s chest when required and prompted.
DO NOT delay treatment to determine exact weight. Once infant mode has been enabled, you cannot change to adult mode.
Yes. CellAED® is a fully automatic AED (automated external deﬁbrillator), which means it will automatically deliver a shock when required without you pushing a button.

No. It is designed for single patient use – meaning it will deliver multiple shocks, as required, in a single event, after which the entire unit is replaced.

No. Your CellAED® comes with a non-rechargeable battery and will arrive pre-charged. The front face of your CellAED® will inform you of the battery status.
A ﬂashing GREEN LED (every 30 seconds) indicates that your device is fully operational and ready to use.
A ﬂashing AMBER LED (every 30 seconds) indicates that the battery is low, and your device should be replaced immediately. Until replacement arrives, your CellAED® should still be used in an emergency.
NO LED indicates that the battery has expired, and the device must be replaced immediately. The expiry date of your device can be located on the back of your CellAED®.
Please be aware the product expiry takes into consideration all internal components, including the battery and the gel on the electrode pads. After your CellAED® has expired your product will no longer work as intended.
Yes. Your CellAED® can be taken with you on a plane and must be taken as part of your carry-on luggage.
As a reminder, please always check with the airline regulations prior to taking CellAED® as there are airline requirements when travelling with a battery-operated medical device.
Your CellAED® is fully integrated with a pre-charged lithium battery. It has passed airline safety certiﬁcations and if you’re travelling on a commercial passenger airline, CellAED® is safe to take in your carry-on luggage, so you can feel reassured you’re always ready to act when traveling.
If you’re travelling on specialised ﬂights, the airline may have limits on lithium content. Below are details of the battery in your CellAED®

Yes. CellAED® can be taken with you, locally or internationally, for personal use only. If you’re planning to travel by air, pack your CellAED® into your hand luggage. Please check with the airline regulations prior to taking CellAED® with you.
If you’re planning to travel in a car in another country, please make sure you take your CellAED® with you when you leave the car. Treat your CellAED® like your keys, wallet or mobile phone. Take it with you.
Our telecommunication service agreements include international roaming if your CellAED® is able to connect with a compatible network in that country. CellAED® will still operate correctly in an emergency even if you’re in a region without cellular coverage.
Keep your CellAED®️ within the recommended storage temperature range of 15º to 35ºC (59º to 95ºF). This will maximise the performance of the components inside your CellAED®️ including battery and the gel on the electrode pads. By leaving your CellAED®️ in low or high temperature conditions for an extended time, your CellAED®️ may not function as intended for the duration of its shelf life.
Please note, every device (including other AEDs) that contain a battery are inherently temperature sensitive. CellAED®️ is a personal defibrillator, treat it like your other personal belongings and always take your CellAED®️ with you.
CellAED® uses a special data only sim that is designed to work well in low mobile coverage areas. It is possible that we can still monitor your CellAED® even if you cannot get voice calls. However, if there is absolutely no coverage, we will not be able to remotely monitor your CellAED® during those times. Once you re-enter an area with mobile coverage, your CellAED® will automatically connect to the network and monitoring will continue.
No. CellAED® is a fully integrated product designed to work without needing to worry about replacing parts like battery or gel pads.
